What is a SmartAlec Adventure Chase
Our Adventure Chase is a unique race that navigates teams of two on a quest to unknown locations to complete challenges, solve puzzles, do dares and have some laughs! Teams will receive a manifesto of clues leading to challenges to be completed in any order. Teams travel on foot or public transport (details) finishing in 3-4 hours. The team that makes the best use of their wits, resources, determination, and physical ability could win. To complete the race, teams must collect 11 symbols out of 15-20 plus present any photos or scavenged items required in the challenges.
Rules of transit?
You can walk, run, skip and use PUBLIC transit (bus and trolley). No other forms of transportation are allowed (taxi, scooter, motorcycle, bicycle, skateboard etc)
Do we use SmartAlec GPS units?
No. This special event was created to not require SmartAlec GPS Adventure Guides
What makes a team?
You’ll need 2 people for each team, 18 years an older. Doesn’t matter who but remember you’re stuck with each other, no matter the task. All teams MUST cross the finish line together.
Do I have to have a partner?
Yes, but you don’t have to declare their name until you each sign paperwork at check-in. The team registration fee is due upon registration.
Is there a family division with more than 2 on a team?
Yes. You can sign up 2-4 players for the Family Division. To qualify 1 team member must be under 18. At challenges…2 members must complete the challenge.
Can we buddy up with other teams?
Yes. It’s fun to travel around with others but each 2-person team must sign up individually.
Who is allowed to help me?
Helping from other teams or complete strangers is allowed. Friends in person are not allowed to help with any part of the race. Phone-a-friend, gadgets, and internet are fine.
How much does it cost? Refunds?
It’s $30 per person for advance registration. $35 per person within 1 week. $40 per person on the day of the event. 10% Cancellation fee. No refunds within 7 days of event.
What are the prizes?
Prizes will be posted online. Some are corny and some are cash.

What kind of challenges?
A good SmartAlec uses both brain and brawn. Mental challenges can range from brain teasers to puzzles and riddles. A physical challenge might be to play leapfrog or use your teammate to make a pyramid.
What is the course?
That’s the best part. You choose your own adventure! You will need to develop your own strategy depending on your teams own strengths. The goal is to collect 11 symbols from the list of 15-20 challenges, thats it. There’s no exact course to follow. Some clues will have exact locations, some will be clues or riddles that lead you to the location. You develop a strategy that best suits your team. Working smarter, not harder, is always good.
How long will the race last?
Most teams will finish in 3 to 4 hours. There is a 4 hour time limit.
What is the Schedule?
The big day is Saturday, September 20th. Start time is set to 1:00 p.m. You will receive a detailed schedule 1 week prior to the event that will reveal the secret starting location and official time of the event.
What if we can’t figure out a clue?
Call some friends, use the internet, use your resources. In the event that it’s too much for you to figure out, just go to another location. Your bound to get to them one way or another!
